LiVE in Hamar, Norway sharing news and some wonderful 'Memories of Music from Moscow'
2017: An early LiVE JFI Radio broadcast on location in London
2015: Hosting my own programme 'European Night' and reading the news at Radio Leinehertz 106.5, in Hannover in Germany
2004: Reading the news at ITV breakfast studios
When did JFI Radio start, and why?
It started with a throwaway comment in 2004. I was doing some sample news reading at ITV studios for GMTV when the sound engineer stopped me and said “with your voice you should do news reading and recording.” I filed that away and got on with my life.
11 years later in 2015. I did something about it.
My EC project work in early 2015 took me to Hannover, Germany, where I got the chance to host my own programme on Radio Leinehertz 106.5. Something clicked and a few months later, I launched JFI Radio LiVE from my home studio on 10th April. The broadcasts were live back then and some took place on location too. One of the earliest ones was back in Germany and then at events in London. Some were on camera, and some were audio only – working it out as I went along.
Since then I’ve worked in 42 countries, on 5 continents, and counting – and broadcast JFI Radio LiVE from many of them. In 2024 I added video back into the podcasting mix, so now it’s audio, video, or both, depending on where I am and what the moment calls for.
